Shannen discovered her passion for early childhood education while touring Australia in a stage adaptation of a beloved children’s picture book, performing for audiences aged 5–8. The wonder and excitement she saw in those children led her to retrain as a teacher, and for the past five years she has brought learning to life through a teaching practice grounded in storytelling, music, and connection.

 

Interests

Shannen loves live music and theatre, karaoke, trivia nights, travel, tennis, and photography. She unwinds by knitting, walking in nature, visiting the sauna, or cosying up with a good book. New to the Bay Area from Sydney, she’s looking forward to making new friends and discovering the local plants and wildlife — especially birds!

 

What I love about working with Trū students

I love their sense of awe and wonder, and their intrinsic drive to solve problems and make sense of their world. Working with young children reminds me to play, stay present, and keep my own curiosity alive.

 

What people might find surprising about me

I had a nomadic childhood, attending nine different schools by the age of twelve — including time in New Zealand and several small Australian country towns. As an adult, I’ve continued to move around, living in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney before crossing the Pacific to join Trū. These experiences have made me adaptable and open-minded, and quick to build friendships and community wherever I go.
