Forest School - Trū School

Forest School

a relationship with the natural world

Inquire today

In our semi-urban community, we seek sensitivity to a living environment.

In 2024 Tru formally adopted the internationally known Forest School program as a way to enhance the nature awareness of our students. It follows six core principles, each of which contributes to children’s experience.

Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment. It has a structure which is based on the observations and collaborative work between learners and practitioners. The program aims to foster a relationship with nature through regular personal experiences in order to develop long-term, environmentally sustainable attitudes and practices in staff, learners and the wider community. Forest School uses natural resources for inspiration, to enable ideas and to encourage intrinsic motivation.

During full day Forest School sessions, Trū students explore materials and crafts that follow their interests. They discover techniques for building shelters and learn how to weave nets. They take appropriate risks and adjust to the discomfort of an environment without climate controls. They work collaboratively and learn to think as a community.
