Nilima Shrestha - Trū School

Nilima ShresthaLead teacher

“I believe that children possess multiple intelligences and therefore learn and acquire knowledge in diverse ways. As educators, we must adapt our teaching strategies to meet their individual needs and teach in ways that align with how they learn best. I focus on supporting all four areas of child development: physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and cultural.”

MBA, Tribhuwan University, Nepal
Post Graduate Diploma in Education, Kathmandu University, Nepal

Nilima’s journey into teaching began when she took on a role as a kindergarten teacher—and quickly discovered her true passion. Since then, she has dedicated herself fully to early childhood and elementary education. For Nilima, coming to school and interacting with children is more than just teaching; it’s a form of therapy that keeps her mentally and physically strong.

Interests

Originally from Nepal, Nilima holds strong family values and is passionate about passing her culture on to the next generation. While raising her 22-year-old son in the U.S., she ensures he stays connected to his roots and appreciates the importance of tradition in today’s world. In her free time, Nilima enjoys spending time with family, going on hikes, attending Zumba classes, and traveling back to Nepal to make lasting memories with family and friends.

What I love about working with Trū students

“One of the things I’m excited about is the school’s commitment to transformative learning—for both students and educators. I’m looking forward to beginning this journey, where learning goes beyond the classroom and into real-life experiences through hands-on projects. There’s nothing more fulfilling than being part of a team that empowers students in such meaningful ways.”

What people might find surprising about me

“I survived the devastating earthquake in Nepal in 2015. Once I ensured my family was safe, I joined efforts in my community to distribute essential supplies like food and water. I also had the opportunity to be part of my school’s outreach team, traveling to nearby districts to support teachers by helping them rebuild confidence and develop effective relief and safety plans, including earthquake drills. It was a life-changing experience that deepened my sense of resilience, compassion, and commitment to community support.”
